On November 21st, the 16th Academic Conference and 30th Academician Conference of the Academy of Sciences of Developing Countries (TWAS) opened in Hangzhou, China. At the conference, the list of winners of the 2024 TWAS Award was announced. Researcher Zhang Suojiang, academician of the CAS Member, director of the Longzihu New Energy Laboratory, director of the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and president of Henan University, won the TWAS Award in Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Developing Countries in recognition of his outstanding contributions to basic scientific research and green technology development in the field of ionic liquids and chemical engineering.
TWAS was founded by Nobel laureate Abdul Salam in 1983 and is a non-governmental, non political, and non-profit international scientific organization. Headquartered in Trieste, Italy, we are committed to supporting developing countries in conducting scientific research activities, promoting exchanges and cooperation between researchers and research institutions, and promoting the development of basic and applied sciences. The TWAS Science Award is awarded to scientists from developing countries who have made outstanding contributions in scientific research and is selected every two years.
Zhang Suojiang, academician of the CAS Member, director of the Longzihu New Energy Laboratory, director of the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, president of Henan University, and vice president of the Chinese Chemical Society. Mainly engaged in green chemical process and engineering research. Revealed the structure-activity relationship of green medium ionic liquids and the special structure of nano micro interfaces, forming a new method for molecular design of ionic liquids; Obtained a new mechanism for reaction transfer coupling in ionic liquid systems and engineering amplification laws, and developed a new technology for enhanced reaction/separation in ionic liquids; We have overcome major technological and engineering challenges in the large-scale preparation, process innovation, and system integration of ionic liquids, and achieved demonstration and industrial application of multiple green technologies. Served as the editor in chief of the Journal of Process Engineering and Green Energy&Environment journals.
